flights etc

ok so i'm on the phone w/ gk. we've come to the conclusion that a kenya safari is going to be quite difficult to coordinate and we should just stick to the country of Tanzania.
So, we will fly into dar es salaam, and then organize a safari trip from there out to the serengetti (sp?) and then return back to dar es salaam. from there we can move to zanzibar.

please check out the sites and figure out what type of experience you'd like.. its going to be a short safari, like 5 days max?

also if everyone could post what they are expecting to pay for things that will help w/ budget planning. so what i need from you:
1. the dates you are going to be able to go.. we agreed on Aug. 8th before please verify that this will continue to work.
2. how much is the max you can afford for: a) Flights b) safari c) house in zanzibar.
3. what is the total cost you've budgeted

Yup, Mobilize

I don't wnt to lose momentum on this little project of ours, and I know that it's not like our schedules are going to get any easier towards the summer, so . . . .

1. It looks like the people who are going are GK, MF, AW, and ED. We are theoretically meeting EB and BC in Africa, maybe JW will somehow meet us somewhere for part of the trip. Right?

2. PLANE TICKETS - Somebody has to do research. I can certainly look at Expedia and Travelocity and all that and get a list of prices for us. However, please email me any other sites where we can get cheap tickets (EB and BC should probably be an expert at this!). It seems like it would make the most sense for us to buy our tickets all at once, although we are not sure whether we're flying out together, right? I am volunteering to tackle this part . . . but please email me suggestions of where to look.

3. Are we definitely flying in to Dar as Salam? Refresh my memory . . . . why are we flying there?

4. I still really want to get the house in Zanzibar, and the brief research that Molly and I did appears to indicate that they are really cheap - like 200 bucks per person for the week. That's obviously fantastic, although someone has to really be in charge of actually getting it booked and all that.

5. SAFARI - I think we'd all really like to make this happen, too, right? Joe, can you please suggest places/companies/organizations? Any discount that you can pull for us with your special connections would be of course much appreciated. Once Joe throws us some ideas and suggestions, we should decide reasonable quickly - so that we can save the money and also because I'm sure that they book up fast.

6. If we do the house in Zanzibar and the safari wherever, how are travelling to these places aside from our plane ride to Africa? Again, JW may be the best person to advise or BC.

7. If we are all worried that we aren't able to plan/organize this trip ourselves (I kind of am) . . . . . shoudl we get a travel agent or something?

Anyways, it seems like maybe it would be a good idea for us to assign ourselves different tasks (George - plane tickets, Molly - house, etc.) . . . . . obviously, final decisions will be decided jointly but then I feel like each of us won't feel as overwhelmed.

Let's make it happen!

Mobilize!

Ok so we should def get moving I agree.. we need to work backwards and get a time line together.. aka below:
August- Trip!
July- Vaccines must be done.
Touch base w/ joe re: meeting up and his schedule?
June- save $$ for vaccines
Make and apt. w/ your primary doc for july to get the malaria prophylaxis script and a just in case cipro rx for diarrhea!
May- last month to get your passport in time
save $$ for
April- last month we can get tickets...
March- make sure you've got $$ for the tix.
We may need to book? 5months ahead for the house? (totally a random guess but maybe we can get a lower price... molly any comments) should we plan an actual meet up in someone's city?
Feb- get like 4 extra jobs for the tix that are expensive
Jan- pay off your short term debts and get ready/keep saving. you have 2.5 months to get appx $2500 shit!
ok i'm out

Let's not lose momentum . . .

So . . . . . what plans do we need to work on now?

Do we have a talley of who exactly is going on this trip?

I guess those who are should do the vaccines.

Did we agree to buy plane tickets in March/April?

uh oh...

is that the sound of crickets and tumbleweeds?
we should re-group on this trip...given all the chaos in Kenya right now. Luckily, Joe & Abby are in the US and not Nairobi, but it still worries me...
wasn't the safari part of the trip slated for Kenya?

I'm in for the 22nd. I'm coming back to Bethlehem that afternoon, so I should be around anytime after 4.

I agree with the food idea and the wine idea and you know I think board games are always a good idea.

Just tell me where to go and I'll be there.
ja, ja. i agree with gk. when will everyone be home? is it possible to either 1) meet earlier that day to discuss or 2) meet another day to discuss [pending availability]? i just want to make sure we have time to just chill with everyone, aside from the trip-goers.

b and i will be in btown the 22nd til the 27/8ish.

how about you all - mols & adam, gk, em, dell, kate, dave?

joe - you wont, right? just nyc?

i think the 22nd works for meg, too...how about keith?
